Our Story

The Christian Ministry Alliance Story

Twin Valley Alliance Church is part of The Christian and Missionary Alliance, otherwise known as the C&MA or The Alliance, is an evangelical denomination full of believers who long to introduce the love of God to all nations.
The Alliance was birthed in 1881 when Pastor A. B. Simpson organized a small group of believers devoted to experiencing Jesus in His fullness and making Him known to New York City’s marginalized dock workers.

The Alliance has always had a desire to follow God’s call, to bring His hope to the nations, and to carry out our vision of All of Jesus for All the World. By caring for suffering and overlooked people through 2,000 U.S. churches and more than 700 international workers serving in 70 countries, the C&MA longs to see Jesus’ name proclaimed in every tribe and tongue to fulfill the Great Commission.
That’s our mission—to go and make disciples of all nations, to bring all of Jesus to all of the world.

Meet Our Pastor.

Pastor Joel McGarvey and his wife Lynn came to Twin Valley Alliance in 2011 after serving for 15 years as missionaries in the countries of Peru and Argentina.

Both Joel and Lynn were raised in upstate New York and met while studying at Nyack College.  They have two adult children: Laura, recently married, and Daniel, a student at Messiah College.

Pastor Joel enjoys reading in his spare time and loves the game of soccer.  He also has an identical twin, but since he lives 250 miles away, you don’t need to worry about getting them mixed up.

Pastor Joel’s greatest joy in ministry is teaching the Word of God and seeing people grow in their faith.

Where we are headed...

Why now.?

We are living in a unique cultural moment, a tipping point where change is happening—fast. How do we, as the Alliance family, position ourselves for what God is calling us to in this moment? Rather than preserving a lifestyle of comfort and safety, are we willing to fully engage with Jesus toward the future flourishing of our movement while staying rooted in the deeper life foundation that supports it?

The Christian and Missionary Alliance has always been a responsive, sacrificial, risk-taking family. When God opens doors, we walk through them, seizing gospel-advancing opportunities before those doors close. During this next, bold chapter of Alliance advance, we are taking intentional and strategic steps toward the pioneering work that has always defined us. If you’re part of the Alliance family, you’re a part of this moment—and the time is now.

In a time of uncertainty, God is at work and on the move, and we want to move with Him—now. Will you join us in this important moment for The Alliance?
