A Great Awakening is a moving reminder of where true freedom is ultimately found.
The film tells the story of the remarkable friendship between Benjamin Franklin and Reverend George Whitefield, one of the most influential voices of the First Great Awakening. Whitefield boldly preached repentance, grace, and freedom in Jesus Christ, and his ministry helped stir an entire generation.
One of the strongest themes throughout the film is that true liberty cannot simply be written into laws or established by human institutions. True freedom must first be awakened in the heart.
Throughout history, we have seen seasons when God has stirred people to seek Him in a deeper way.
From George Whitefield and the Great Awakening, to the Welsh Revival, the Azusa Street Revival, the Billy Graham Crusades, the Jesus Movement, and more recently the gathering of worship and prayer at Asbury University, generation after generation has been reminded
that God is still working.
Cultures change.
Governments change.
Generations come and go.
Jesus Christ does not change.
Revival is not simply something we read about in history books. God is still drawing people to Himself. He is still restoring lives. He is still calling people out of darkness and into His light. He is still awakening hearts to the truth of the Gospel.
Jesus said:
“So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” — John 8:36
At Twin Valley Alliance Church, our prayer is that God would continue to awaken hearts in our church, our families, our children, our young people, and throughout our communities.
May we never become satisfied only hearing about what God did in previous generations.
May we continue to believe that He is able to work powerfully in ours.
Lord, awaken us again.
