Friend of God: The First Step of Faith

📖 Genesis 11:27–32 Genesis 12:1-5

Genesis 11 isn’t just a list of names — it’s the turning point of redemptive history.

After the Tower of Babel and humanity’s rebellion, God begins His rescue plan through one man… one family… one step of obedience.

Abram was born in Ur — a prosperous, pagan city filled with idol worship. Comfort. Culture. Security. Everything familiar.

And yet, something shifted.

Terah gathered his family and began the journey toward Canaan — but they stopped in Haran. The journey started… but it wasn’t finished.

Before God ever says “Go” in Genesis 12, there is already movement in Genesis 11.

Faith often begins quietly.

It starts before the spotlight.

It develops before the promise is spoken.

Abram’s story reminds us that becoming a Friend of God doesn’t begin with a covenant — it begins with a step. Leaving what is known. Trusting what is unseen. Moving when God stirs your heart.

Some journeys stall.

Some steps are delayed.

But God is still working through imperfect families and unfinished obedience.

Maybe you’re in your “Haran” — not where you started, but not fully where God wants you to be.

This Sunday we’ll explore how the first step of faith sets the direction for a lifetime of walking with God.
